Joshua Roman is a cellist, composer, and curator. Before striking out on his unique soloist path, Roman spent two years as principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony, and has since earned renown for his genre-bending repertoire and wide-ranging collaborations.

In recent years on the classical stage, Roman has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, the Malaysian Philharmonic and the LA Chamber Orchestra as well as making debuts with the Detroit Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Milwaukee Philharmonic and others. This season Roman performs his own quintet "Tornado" with the Verona Quartet around the country including The Kennedy Center, collaborates with venerated artists including Edgar Meyer and the St Lawrence String Quartet, and will compose and premiere a Concerto for Violin and Cello (violinist Vadim Gluzman and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, David Danzmayr conducting). Previously, he has also collaborated on an original work for stage with actor Anna Deavere Smith, and is in his twelfth year as Artistic Director of Seattle Town Hall’s TownMusic series. He has performed all over the world—from refugee camps and HIV clinics in Africa to the YouTube Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall, the U.S. State Department with Yo-Yo Ma, and the TED Mainstage. Roman can be found online sharing classic and original works through YouTube, Facebook, and most actively, Instagram (@joshuaromancello). He performed Bach's Six Suites on TED's Facebook Page after the 2016 election for 980,000+ live viewers, spreading a message of peace and humanity. Roman plays a loaned 1899 cello made by Giulio Degani of Venice.
